I tried to remember hard.

But I can't decide which memory is my second.

It may be when I was four and several months old.

My mother took me to Amakusa.

It's where her family came from.

Mother took me to be at the funeral of her mother.

I remember someone making me sit before a 仏壇。

She told me my grandma died.

I didn't believe her because my father's mother was in Tokyo.

I told her my grandma wasn't dead.

I remember two more things.

One is that the lavatory was outside the house.

The other is that someone took me to 田んぼ on a cart.

The cart was being pulled by an ox.

It may have been a cow.

I'm in a Shinkansen train.

heading for 豊田高専.

I'm late.

I got up at six thirty this morning.

I had set my alarm at five thirty!

Had no breakfast.

had to rush to leave home.

Some streets are frozen.

Many people living in this neighbourhood are old and frail.

They haven't the strength to clear the snow.

So there's still snow and it's dangerously frozen.

Some people worked hard and made a footpath.

It snakes in the middle of the road.

Older people toddle along it.

Surely this is where our tax money should be spent, right?

I didn't know ikigai has become an international term.
