Oh, "The Hobbit was nominated for the Carnegie medal" doesn't mean "The Hobbit won the Carnegie medal"!
I thought it won the Carnegie medal, naturally. What was the book that won the prize at that time?

awards and medals are often quirky. The first time I realised it was when I read 「大地」 by pearl buck when i was a 中学生. I didn't like it and wondered why it had won a nobel prize for literature. Im not sure about 川端康成 either or 大江健三郎 for that matter. All of them maybe good writers but not for me.
